RoseMichelle O'Connell – Head of Primary School

At ICS we aim to develop an atmosphere of trust and happiness, where your child will feel cared for and secure. We believe that everyone has the right to learn, to be happy and to be safe. Children are treated as individuals, while learning to live, share and develop as members of our school community. Our students come from a wide variety of countries, and our programme aims to promote and celebrate international understanding.

We have high expectations for all our students and aim to provide broad and enriching learning experiences through a stimulating environment. Children are guided and supported to work to their full potential in all areas of the curriculum. All children differ in ability and interests, and our highly individualised approach enables us to encourage particular talents, skills, abilities and attitudes and to target each student’s needs and impact their learning. Our inclusive setting also enables us to offer structured learning support and provide challenge to our students.

In June 2008 we were authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP). We are proud of this significant achievement and as an IB World School our task is to foster and nurture the spirit of inquiry in our students, inspiring them to grow into individuals who are committed to learning for the rest of their lives. All members of our community seek opportunities to reinforce the attributes of the IB Learner Profile: IB learners strive to be inquirers, thinkers, communicators, risk-takers, and to be knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded, balanced and reflective. We encourage these attributes in our students throughout the school day and beyond, whether in class, at playtimes, in assemblies or while participating in after school activities and field trips.

Our staff are supported throughout the year with on-going professional development, as we believe that such training enhances the learning opportunities offered to our students. As a learning community we believe that education is a joint venture in which staff and parents work together, providing the best atmosphere in which a child can grow and learn. We welcome parents to take an active part in school life here at the International Community School.

Upon completing the final year in our primary school, students naturally progress to our secondary school, for students aged 11 – 19. The secondary school is also an IB World School offering the IB Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) to students aged 11 – 16, followed by a two year pre-university programme. ICS therefore provides a complete education for your child from 3 – 19.
