About Skola Life Skills
History
The Skola Life Skills program began in 2004 and is geared toward students with learning disabilities/difficulties between the ages of eleven to nineteen years. Even with modifications, students were not gaining educationally from the mainstream academic programme. As a response to these students’ individual needs a more functional academic approach was developed and the Skola Life Skills Department was born.
The programme is designed to enable students to learn and develop a variety of life skills to help them live independent lives in the future. The programme helps younger students who find full inclusion into the mainstream school too difficult and young adults (post 16) learn life skills to enable them to lead independent lives.
- Life Skills is the broad term for the many proficiencies needed to function in the world.
- Students within the Skola Life Skills programme at ICS have different and wide-ranging goals, however the primary goals are social communication and functional academic skills.
- Students may have mild to moderate learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), Asperger’s Syndrome or Down’s Syndrome.
- By in-depth analysis of previous school and therapeutic reports and discussion with parents and student, a programme is built and developed which enhances their ability to communicate, live, and work for a healthy and happy future.
