• Our programme addresses the whole person and is based on a student-centered approach.
• Each student’s programme is designed individually by our multi-disciplinary team with input from their parents/guardians.
• Individual goals are developed after a comprehensive assessment has been conducted.
• All students have an advisor who case-manages their progress on an individual basis whilst at SKOLA Life Skills .

We aim to prepare students for eventual employment or further education according to their ability and interest. We also aim to help them acquire the skills to live fulfilling and independent lives.

We believe effective communication to be the vital component and the key to unlocking all areas of learning and life. Appropriate communication skills will lead to successful interaction – the basis of social exchange. In addition, an Individual Learning Plan will typically cover areas such as:

• socially responsible behaviour
• interpersonal skills
• independence and interdependence
• problem solving skills
• occupational and employment skills
• physical and manual skills
• achieving self-awareness
• acquiring self-confidence
• raising, preparing, and consuming food
• buying and caring for clothing
• exhibiting responsible citizenship
• using recreational facilities and engaging in leisure activities
• independent travel skills

Instruction is community-based, within small group settings, through direct instruction and through modelling and role-play. There is an emphasis on learning in the real world.

Duration

The duration of the programme varies according to each individual student’s age, ability, progress and most importantly their goals for future life.
